Topic: One - dimensional data
Objective: To carry out a workshop to reinforce the calculation of the mode, median, mean and deviations.
Shared Resources:
Typical deviation
Unlike the IQR, which is calculated from the medians, the standard deviation measures the spread of the data from the mean. An intuitive way to look at it is as the mean distance between the data and the mean x̄.
The properties of x̄ and s
The median and standard deviation are very useful for summarizing the properties of fairly symmetric histograms, they are outliers or mountain-shaped histograms.
A golden rule
In nearly symmetric mountain-shaped data sets, approximately 68% of the data is less than one standard deviation from the mean and 95% is less than two standard deviations from the mean.
1. Different ways of representing them.
2. Two different concepts of the data center, the median and the mean.3. Two ways to calculate the spread of the data around the center.
4. Histogram of mountain shape and z. Variable that indicates how many standard deviations an observation has from the mean.
Personal conclusions
In conclusion, we learned about the two forms of calural scattering of the data, about the mountain histograms and in the form of Z.
